  • Hi, so can i check with you, which jouster will hit the other jouster first?

  • @kindaich1 It's been a year since I've taken modern physics, so please excuse me if this answer isn't entirely correct...

Like with the barn paradox, where a 2 meter pole could fit inside a 2 meter barn thanks to length contraction, but then not be able to without being length contracted (i.e. when the pole stops moving), I believe the two riders, in their own reference frames, would hit each other. In the barn paradox, the pole and its carrier would fit inside the barn.

    Continued in nxt comm.

  • @drewta2 The door would shut behind them as they entered. But the end of the pole that would hit the back wall of then barn. The "fact" that the end of the pole hit that back wall wouldn't be conveyed to the front end of the poll, which would have just entered the barn. So that's why the entire pole can enter the barn.

I'm not entirely sure what would happen afterwards, but I believe the pole would expand and, literally, explode, so simply break through the back wall of the barn if it was weaker

  • @drewta2 So in that sense, both jousters would hit each other in their own respective reference frames.

There's probably something wrong with what I'm thinking but eh, hope it helps. Good luck lol.

  • Velocity actually = displacement (not distance) over time. Sorry. I know they're both travelling in a straight line, so it makes no difference. I'm sorry.

  • Jousting pole...?

  • its kinda not clear, so the other jouster would think that he will hit the other first while the other thinks vice versa also because you said that its accdg to their own reference frames?..

  • I had to watch this twice. The first time through, I kept getting distracted by the thought of how much it must hurt to get hit by a jousting pole traveling at relativistic speeds.

  • quite nice!!!!
