  • So you start around 4pm and by the time it gets dark you have a light! For Christs sake !

  • @chas4551 It takes about 2 to 3 minutes, not that long really.

  • Yes tilleys are good, but no where near as good as the petromax/anchor range, for one they have a very very fiddly meths jar to lose! If you look at the better lamps like the German made ones they have an on board rapid preheater which solves this problem instantly, no mess or silly british methods.

  • @RocketScientist79 I also have two willis and bates made lanterns, one vapalux branded and one bialladin branded model 320's. They are also much better than the tilleys. That being said, I still love them.

  • They do take some time to light, but they are worth it in the end. I am pleased you friend found it helpful, but if he needs any more help, lighting instructions can sometimes be found on e bay.

  • @fouloleron2002 2 to 3 minutes? But you manage to make a video nearly six minutes long and even then it "could of done with a little more pre heat". Go buy a torch!

  • @fouloleron2002 Oh Willis and Bates, AKA Vapalux. Lovelly machines, yes I had one for many a year handed over to me by a great old relative. It worked for many a year until it finally bit the dust this week. However from now onwards I'll be getting one of the ones with a rapid torch onboard and the capacity to use either petrol or diesel bases. Thus the only answer really is a petromax!!!

  • Very useful - thanks

  • I was losing the will to live for a while during the whole creaky process but found it very informative due to a friends request on how to light one which he had just received today.

    Thanx for posting.
