Dingle Kerry

Vagary or expedition, off season and everything had wound down for the winter months, B&B's all closed and hotels even shutting down for a month. We threw our bags whereever we they would take us and visited anywhere that would let us in. This is a video postcard of some of our shenanigans.First night in Dingle hotel, slept through breakfast, think we were the only people in the hotel. It closed for the next month so we had to check out and then we found the cappall dubh bed and breakfast 35euro bed and breakfast the owners are mad craic, Patrick & Helenas paintings of penguins where fun to gaze at as we tucked into a real irish breakfast. Awesome peep's. Well be back. Apartments to rent too. Colaiste ide stables were next on the list, horseriding over the town of dingle in the cold wintery weather is an amazing experience. dont have any footage however as handling a 6 foot horse and an xl2 camera would be hazardous at best.
If you ever get to dingle on a tuesday night go to the phoenix cinema, doewsnt matter whats on, its film club night you meet all the locals get tea and biscuits and see a great independant cinema, the introduction to the film is the highlight, anyone that has ever been will know what i mean. A bedpost, an old coffee tin and a lightbulb. enough said. Dingle record shop is where i brought the laudin wainright cd that has the song on this video, its also where we met Mazz o flaherty. A spirit of nature that barred me from using the word coincedence. Her new cd is in the shops now. Although how she will ever be rich is beyond me as i left the shop with two free copise. Dingle (Irish: An Daingean / Daingean Uí Chúis, meaning "Ó Cúis' fort") is a town in County Kerry, Ireland. The only town on the Dingle Peninsula, it sits on the Atlantic coast, about 49 kilometres southwest of Tralee and 71 kilometres northwest of Killarney.

In 2005, Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív announced that anglicised place names (such as 'Dingle') of Gaeltacht towns and villages would no longer feature on official signposts, and only the Irish language names would appear. The English language version of the town's name was thus officially dropped in early 2005, with the Irish name An Daingean being advanced.

In the case of Dingle, the move was particularly controversial, as the town relies heavily on the tourist industry, and there was fear that the change could prevent visitors finding the town. Detractors noted that tourists might not recognise the Irish name on sign-posts, and that there could also be confusion with a similarly named town (Daingean) in County Offaly. Supporters rejected this argument, pointing out that there are numerous towns in Ireland with similar names. The minister added to the controversy by suggesting that a name change to English could be brought about by removing the town's Gaeltacht status, thereby losing its entitlement to government grants for Irish-speaking areas.

Principal industries in the town are tourism, fishing and agriculture: Dingle Mart (livestock market) serves the surrounding countryside. In 2006 Dingle had a population of 1,920. Dingle is situated in a Gaeltacht region

@Abraxus81 Hiya how long does it take someone to reply eh??? well I can tell you that its laudin Wainwright, the name of the song is a different matter completely!! I actually brought the cd off Mazz in her tiny little shop in Dingle and it reminds me of the visit....
