Recorded at Level 3 at Hollywood and Highland, June 13, 2008. They played at the Independent, in San Francisco, the night before, got delayed, and arrived at Level 3 an hour late. I heard that Oleh Skrypka had injured his leg two months ago and he came and left on crutches. He also stayed pretty well glued to his stool the whole night but still managed to keep up an animated energy level. This number, Buly Na Seli" ("Na Seli" means "In the rural, village countryside") leads into "Halyu, Prykhod" which means "Halya, Come Here" where Skrypka picks up the bayan, an instrument which resembles an accordion. A bayan has buttons, an acordion has a keyboard.

For you Amerikantsi and others who are not familiar with "V V", as most fans refer to them, they were founded in 1988 by three students in Kyiv as a rock band. Their name is from one of the looney characters in Dostoyevsky's novel "The Village of Stepanchivo and its Inhabitants". Vidopliasov is a house servant who writes letters he calls his howls or wails (Vopli), so "Vopli Vidopliassova" means "Vidopliasov's wails". They are a legendary punk-folk band led by Oleh Skrypka, who is the only original member still with the band. Skrypka, bassist Oleks Pipa (his original partner), and guitarist Zhenna Rohchevsky, all have solo albums out too.
