Beyoncé - Single Ladies and Mark-Anthony Turnage - Hammered Out reach new levels of intimacy. Video taken from the BBC Proms and from the original Beyoncé music video. Remixed using logic by James Russet. Hammered Out performed by the fantastic BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Original orchestral video (clazzicalmode) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8vpl3YiyAo

  • It's funny.. both originals seem to be lacking something, but when combined it's a perfect marriage! Well done Mr Russet! Loving the title as well!

  • @Rodflute I think 'marriage' is the correct word, they where definitely made for each other!

  • This is brillant -- I was sitting in the stall during the Turnage premiere thinking, "it can't be - but it is!". Later watching the BBC iPlayer video, I opened up the Beyoncé video in another tab and by perfect serendipity it came in in synch and even in the same tune. I do feel that Turnage should acknowledge his debt.

But why leave it there -- there are some great tunes by Lady Gaga just gagging (sorry) to be turned into orchestral greats.

    Well done Mr Russet!

  • @stav2009 I couldn't believe it either! I was in the arena for the performance and was shocked to find out that most of the regular prommers' didn't even know who Beyonce was!

  • This is cool, but if you go to around 2:25 on the video of the full piece (posted by clazzicalmode), you'll see a part of the song that has been missed here.

  • @ellenbud Thanks, was wondering if the original had made it onto youtube.

  • Thank you for posting. It's a strange acoustic mashup. It sounds like these two pieces don't cooperate because they are both instrumentally clashing in pitch and harmonic arrangement. However, the desire to listen to this odd clash of harmonics still somehow manage to maintain your attention, at least with me.

  • You're strangely compelled to make these two mismatched tones work, even if you have to deceive yourself into thinking they do when they really don't. I guess if you expose yourself to it repeatedly you may find it works by process of familiarity.

  • Today we learn that Beyonce is, in fact, related to Gustav Mahler!

  • If ur deaf

  • Sounds k

  • this is crap u should have left the song alone

  • It sounds like old Disney classics to me for some reason...

  • OMG....this is the FIRST time i EVER heard of remixing a song ,not to techno, but to freakin classical!!! Novel idea.
