Festivals Kelowna says NO to Brazilian Samba

June 27 Festival Kelowna is generating news on TV and in Newspapers for silencing Samba Tribe. NO FUN FOR YOU.
Festivals Kelowna recently shut down Samba Tribe a Brazilian percussion and dance troop based on at least 3 complaints and They (Samba Tribe) invited a lot of the public and kids to join in with instruments, Im sure it was fantastic, Janet Anderson Artistic Director of Festivals Kelowna said, Unfortunately, it was just too much for what our program is.
Obviously Janet Anderson was not down by City Park on a warm Friday Night as people strolled by the lively and vibrant performances, some pedestrians stopped to watch and take pictures, others started to dance spontaneously on the grass under the large trees while some took it upon themselves to try their musical skills with instruments they picked up.
All this fun and excitement is too much for some, I mean if you see this video you will be able to see that too much fun is not conduit to the image of Kelowna. I find it commendable that by-law officers and Festival Kelowna staff are quick to react to preserve the status quo image of retirement walled community Kelowna. Now if only other complaints were acted on with such vigor and speed as the 3 alleged complaints against Samba Tribe recently it was revealed that the city of Kelowna has 142 employees receiving an annual salary of $75,000 or more for a total of 50 million dollars in wages and expenses in 2008, more than 10% higher than in 2007.
If the good people of Kelowna were to be offended by such a perverse disregard for monies collected from taxpayers and complain --- nothing happens. Power in the hands of a few is dangerous. Time to take back our cities.
