  • Phil Woods was NEVER a bird wannabe. Phil Woods has a better sound than Bird. Bird was never known for his sound.

  • @loveyourach Phil Woods is great but he didn't school Sanborn - he was just vibing him. Listen to him make fun of Sanborn's solo at the start of his own. The jazz police never give Sanborn the credit he deserves - he may not have the vocab of a Charlie Parker or Sonny Stitt, but the brother's playing is funky and legit as hell and he's got his own voice, something you can't say about most Bird imitators.

  • well this was corny and slick

  • @MrParangaricutirimi WTF? Phil Woods with Cannonball Adderley had one of the darkest alto sounds EVER! Parker, himself, as well as many respected jazz journalists/critics have identified his sound as a more brittle and edgy sound, especially compared to the other altoists during the 40s and 50s such as Johnny Hodges, Jimmy Dorsey, and Benny Carter.

  • @KlassyKamikaze.. musician play what charlie parker created.. this include phil woods... so you can´t compare the old master with his child...there`s no sense on that....they sound different.. but there´s not a better sound... wood´s is bright.. parker´s is mid-dark.

  • These two always make some great music when they're together. Some one asked who the other musicians are in the group. The guitar player is Hiram Bullock. He unfortunately passed away not too long ago. The drummer I believe is Omar Hakim. The bass, percussionist, and piano player I don't remember. I recognize them all but forgot their names. Guess I'm gettin' old. I feel bad I don't remember their names.

  • @camarondelapeninsula The other saxophonist is David Sanborn. They've collaborated several times in the past. They're always a pleasure to hear together. Two different styles coming together to make some great music.

  • who is the bass player? and who is the other saxofonist?

  • Wow

  • holy smokes! everything about this was sooo tight. that cadenza... OOHHH MAAANN

  • They called him Prez for a reason.

  • Holy Smokes ! I've seen Phil Woods live a couple of times but I'm still blown away by this.
