My father, when he was alive, told me that this one song changed the world of Arabic music forever. Notice the baladi rhythm, the harmonic reply, the story being told, then Tarab. The nuclear Arab family is listening, responding, gathered in a circle, and dancing. This movie scene was repeated many times in my house when I was growing up and even though 50 years have come and gone, it still makes both my mind and heart smile together.
