I Love aqua mira, I used it on my thru attempt in 08. Lightweight and easy to use. If you have to fill multiple bottles use the container lids as well as the cap. If its raining and theres no where to set the lids to let it mix screw the bottle back on upside down and lean it somewhere while the solution turns. Still have my pur hiker for really skanky water, but for crisp mountain streams AM is all I use.

@CrawlingRoad Thanks again.

@BACKWOODSBLISS Also check E-Bay for used ones in great condition. That's where I got my bush shirt for a great price.

@BACKWOODSBLISS You might like the Swanndri Bush Shirt as well. They are commonly worn by Farmers and outdoor workers in New Zealand. They're heavier than the Ranger shirt and go down below the waist. They're really rugged.

@CrawlingRoad Thanks, gonna check them out.

Pretty cool... not as expensive as I thought either.
Might be good in my day pack or the backpacking I want to do this year.
Thanks!
How do you think the Aquamira compares to tablets such as the Katadyn Micropur MP1?
dcordry 1 month ago
@dcordry Probably identical because it also is chlorine dioxide as the active ingredient.

Good vid as usual Craig! Do you have a preference between the Aquamira or Platypus Gravity Works methods for purification?

@antpop1 The aquamira is lightweight and dead simple. It won't clog or break. Long distance thru hikers prefer it. The GravityWorks is nice because you can haul 8L of water and get the lightweight filter along with it. You also don't need to wait to get clean water as it can filter 4L in minutes and it is ready to go. So it just depends on your needs. I use either depending on what I want to do.
