A GAY HERITAGE VIDEO

*** BACKGROUND ***

This video portrays historical facts relating to the romantic relationships that existed between men in ancient Greece and lays claim to the accomplishments of men who loved other men in ancient societies, as the rightful heritage of Gays today. Philosophers and historians of ancient Greece wrote and recorded the ancient Greeks' prevailing view that love between men was a gift from the Immortal Gods and that the strength of male sexual bonds improve bravery in the military. The quote by Plato used in the video is only one of many such written recorded facts of history. The Greek historian and biographer, Plutarch, wrote: "It is not only the most warlike peoples, the Boeotians, Spartans, and Cretans, who are the most susceptible to this kind of love but also the greatest heroes of old: Meleager, Achilles, Aristomenes, Cimon, and Epaminondas".

*** CREDITS ***

"The Parthenon" is a short computer animation that visually reunites the Parthenon and its sculptural decorations, separated since the early 1800s. The film used combinations of time-of-flight laser scanning, structured light scanning, photometric stereo, inverse global illumination, photogrammetric modeling, image-based rendering, BRDF measurement, and Monte-Carlo global illumination in order to create the twenty-some shots used in the film. "The Parthenon" was directed by Paul E. Debevec, University of Southern California, Institute for Creative Technologies, 2004. For further information contact: Tom Pereira, Producer, ICT Graphics Laboratory, University of Southern California, Institute for Creative Technologies, 13274 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292 (email: pereira@ict.usc.edu)

The music soundtrack is "Love & Loss" from Dynasty, written by Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix and produced by Two Steps from Hell. Further information on Two Steps from Hell may be found online at: http://www.twostepsfromhell.com/index-home.php

  • As a person who knows and loves Ancient age.. I have to say that there was much more bisexuality than pure homosexuality or pure heterosexuality... And their homosexual relationships were more friendship, companion and mentor like... They often had a women to make children and stuff... Most of the homosexual relationships were Achilles like.. Achilles loved women (especially Briseis) but he also had a homosexual relationship with Patroclus.. Achilles was his friend for life...

  • @JackobTyl As a person who also knows and loves Ancient Greco-Roman history, I have to say that the ancient Greeks had a saying: "women are for children and boys are for fun". It was the ancient Greek male's right to have sex with whomever he pleased. Few had exclusive female or male sexual relationships. This was also true for free Roman male citizens, particularly the elite. All of the Roman Emperors through Constantine had male lovers and even husbands, along with their wives.

  • @JackobTyl The real problem is the revision of historical facts by heterosexuals today, who try to rewrite all male-male relationships of ancient Greece and Rome as just being "friends", when in fact, the two males involved were clearly lovers. One only has to look at homosexuals in the U.S. prior to the mid-1960's, who felt compelled by conservative social mores to take wives and live a heterosexual life, while slipping out on their wives to have sex with their male lovers in secret.

  • Great History...OUR HISTORY!!!

  • Yes, the many reasons for Gay Pride: pride in who we are as part of the human race and in the great accomplishments of homosexuals throughout history and their/our contributions to human civilization. There are many who would deny us this today to justify their bigotry and discrimination.

  • being gay is the greatest gift one can get/be...........and being in love with another gay guy is the most beautiful thing in the world.

  • Love between men, rickT5555, is a gift from the Gods!

  • I say again, there is nothing deeper or more honest, than the love of two men.

  • Quelle beauté ! Majestueux video great job merci mon ami bisous .

  • homophobes say it isn't normal, but in truth there's no such thing as normal. normal is a man-made label that was invented so weak-minded pricks like them could have a grasp on what they believe is reality. It all depends on your own point of view

  • A stirring tribute to the love that dares to speak its name and to express itself openly and proudly despite the ignorance, arrogance and bigotry that

    challenges us.
