The late Peter Brook opens up BBC 2 from the self-op continuity area with a 4 minute interval (including a bit of a wobbly start to the interval music cartridge!) before the start of the morning's Open University programmes at 06:46 on Friday 13th August 1993. Peter retired from the BBC in 2001 after 30 years of announcing but sadly died in early December 2006 after a 16 month battle with cancer.
I used to watch OU from a very young age and always waited anxiously for the first programme to start. I was disappointed if it wasn't something sciency or with maths or engineering. Never did understand a damn word of what was being said.
