This video of the legendary gig Queen did at live aid 1985 has been uploaded many times, but the quality was poor most of the times I've seen it, and often split into 3 videos. So here is the dvd source, 1 single 21 minute video, upscaled to 720p, and slightly cropped and stretched to fit the 16:9 standard, adding some sharpness and noise reduction. It's not bluray quality at all, but I believe it's the best available from this historic event. Tho I am more jazz-funk orientated, I do agree this is the best live gig in rock history, ever. Enjoy :)

ps. If anyone has any idea wether the original recording reels are still available at some dungeon at the bbc , or any info if it will ever be released in true HiDef, I sure would like to know ;) Guess that is wishfull thinking tho :)

Line up:

-Freddie Mercury / lead vocals, piano
-John Deacon / bass, vocals ( a little ;))
-Roger Taylor / drums, vocals
-Brian May / guitars, vocals

-Spike Edney / additional guitar, keyboards

Offcourse I don't have the rights to this video, but it was about time a good 16:9 quality version was uploaded.

  • I promise to say this in a nice way...I don't like it being stretched and cropped. When Freddie first sits down at the piano, I thought the camera op was really messing up the shot and framing it poorly. Then I read what you'd done. Sorry, I am not a fan of altering original material. And to answer your question of will it be released ever in true HD? It wasn't recorded in HD, so no.

  • @markvidpa It's ok if you do not like it this way. I just thought I 'd do it 'cos the original is widely to be found, and some people do like it 16:9 screen even if stretched. But about the recording, if it was shot on anolog cameras, I thought it might be digitized from the original analog recording cameras to higher res as is available now? For instance the queen montreal is in HD, and was shot way before this, just on good anolog cams. ..maybe they used shitty cams for liveaid :(

  • @heenez Maybe I wrote a bit too harshly, but scaling up a video, stretching and cropping it, adding some effects and calling it better quality doesn't really cut it. The video is lacking content, and the remaining part has different proportions than the original. It is in no way better.

  • @Jaaqo I'll never do it again. Sorry that I am such an idiot, alongside the thousands of people who actually enjoyed this piece of crap.

  • @Jaaqo Nice to know I gave you a purpose in life mate , cheers, and you're welcome.

  • Lots of bands are called the greatest in the world, the greatest ever, etc. All of which is debateable. But one thing for sure is during that 20 minutes at LiveAid 1985, Queen was the greatest in the world. Freddie, despite his "oddities" is/was one of, if not the best, singers ever. He had a stage presense that would have a crowd yelling and screaming from beginning to end. I was never a huge fan of Queen, but Queen live was like no other.

  • Thanks for posting this, it brings it all back. I was lucky enough to be there and they were out and out the best act on the day!

  • @heenez

They used movie cameras, and shot the Montreal concert on 35mm film (movie film), allowing for the HD quality, this was shot on standard TV cameras, so that it could be broadcast to all the 4:3 TVs around the world

  • Thank you for upload this great gig. QUEEN ROCKS!!!!

  • Thanks for putting this together. I was lucky enough to see Queen live on four separate occasions and this brought back a lot of acid-blurred memories.

  • Thank you for taking the time and uploading this, brilliant quality love this :D

  • I enjoyed the video immensely....especially getting all of it in one video. If you ever get to Zanzibar go visit the "Mercury Bar." He was born on the island and its a very special place. Brilliant entertainer! Forever young....
