EARLY MORNING LIGHT

Sunlight scratches my window,
and I know there's no more sleep.
Sharp fingernails across chalkboards
screaming in my eyes
to rise,and face another day
of living without you.

Those days tumble together
and I know they'll never stand.
Dull monuments to wasted time
falling at my feet,
like sleep,and other failed escapes
from living without you.

But I'll never give it up
'cause time is on my side.
And soon a day will dawn
when you wake up at my side
in the early morning light.

Sunlight shatters my window
and I'm rescued from my sleep.
Bright signal flares chasing the night
searching for my eyes,
to rise,and start another day
of trying to reach you.

The day offers a promise
and it's one I'd like to keep.
A solemn oath to turn the tide
rising from my heart,
to start,and spend another day
in trying to reach you.

And I'll never give it up
'cause time is on my side.
And soon a day will dawn
when you wake up at my side
