How to negotiate lower rent; Finding a perfect rental home and paying less

Say you find your dream apartment, condo or house, and you can't afford the rent. Ask for a lower rent! We bargain for just about everything else. Asking for a 10 percent reduction in this economic climate is certainly attainable. Even if you can't get ten, settle for paying five percent less rent. Be polite, but firm, and be prepared to walk. Remember, you as a tenant, are in the drivers' seat, with all the rental inventory around. But you have to be a desirable tenant. So dress well, and really impress that landlord. He/she would rather have a good tenant pay less than a bad tenant pay more.
