This is a video from the first stage of RayStorm (aka Layer Section 2), part two of a 3-part shootemup series by Taito.
AFAIK (some of) the people who worked on this later formed G-Rev and released Border Down and Under Defeat for Dreamcast, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
The footage is taken from the relatively unknown PC version of the game, which was released by Cyberfront in 2001 (a little late, considering the original game dated from 1996).
The PC port is a straight port from the PlayStation version, up to the point where even the familiar button-layout from that console can still be seen in the menu screens.
What's also stunning is that the game is running in software mode(!), allthough at 640x480, so the polygons got a slight upgrade.
Quite outdated for a 2001 release, but at least the port is solid.
Another thing to note about the PC version are the very loud SFX, which can clearly be heard in the video - I like :)

  • this is coincedence, albion du, fable 4?

  • @binnieb20 Not a coincidence; Albion is the oldest known name for Great Britain.

Many games (and movies) feature names in them that refer to (old) geographic locations, history, culture and religion.

  • is there no clips of good players in this game? im thinking of showing a playthrough in extra mode + hardest difficulty but i wanna see if it already exist, so far i havent found anything

  • @Eschutaz: well, I'm not that good, so if you can do it, by all means go for it!

  • Nice Playthrough, but how did you get the music to work?

  • probably because the PC I played it on still had an audio cable connecting the soundcard and cd-rom player (the music is cd-audio). I think many new pc's don't have that cable anymore. Still, there should be some possibilities to get it working anyhow.

  • Ray-storm is still a nice shooter....... miss this game

  • @MrStone2K10 I'm replying back to say that I DO NOT DISAGREE, lol. Einhander is good shit.

  • @TheDeejay01 and also known as Gunlock ... that game has many names :)

  • This game is fully compatible with both psx 1.3 and epsxe playstation emulators for PC. Also not many people know that you can have the original arcade version if you get Taito Lengends 2 for PS2. It's exclusive to the PS2 version. You can also play the first game known as Rayforce and Gunlock in MAME which is a fantastic game as well. Raystorm is the Sequal to Rayforce.

  • FUCK I WANT THIS GAME!!!!!
