In the Carlton J. Kell High School Robotics Team, we constantly have projects we are working on. One of our big recent projects was constructing a robot that would drive around a track against others, get a ball off of a rack six feet above the track, move the ball across the finish line, cross it, and place the ball back on the rack. This was all for a program we are part of called FIRST. FIRST stands for "For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology" and is run by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway. We were building this robot to compete in their competition, which I described earlier. Before the actual competition, there was a lot of work to do. I brought my video camera and recorded our progress. Here is the first episode of my new documentary series. It tells of how we constructed a pneumatic system, adjusted some speed regulators, planned our ball-punching mechanism, and so on. I hope you enjoy and will watch Team 1311 in the future.
