  • I disagree about glancing at the accompanist....I think it is mandatory as you never know EXACTLY when you will (or the audience) is read.

  • It depends how well you know your accompanist and how long you have been working together .... I actually trained as a concert pianist and then went into accompanying before starting to sing 4 years ago. One friend, a professional soprano, never needed to look at me when I had an intro before her entrance. We worked together so much that we .... just knew .... good comment though, I agree with you when it comes to people who haven't worked together much!!!

  • Awsome! I have to sing the same piece for my own solo for the local school solo competition. I hope I do as well as you did. Too bad I am a contralto and have trouble with those high E flats! >< Stupid high school choral directior!

  • Actually, this piece really is for a contralto as it is supposed to be the grandmother singing to the baby that is going to die .... a very sad and haunting melody. For the high notes I find that almost "crying" them and aiming the sound directly behind the nose really helps .... Good luck!! I always wished that I was a contralto .... such a rare and beautiful voice, lucky you!!!!

  • As an accompanist I never want my singer to glance over to me to begin. As a singer I never do that myself. Typically, a singer will be glancing down to think of character, etc., whatever and then should raise their head which is the accompanist's signal to begin the intro.

  • Why is everyone making a big deal about looking at the accompanist? Who cares? It didn't change the song at all for me.

  • @choirman41 amen!

  • Actually... what I've always done (as the singer) is when I'm ready, I close my eyes, look down for a moment, and when I look up my accompanist starts. It works really well and I've never had a judge comment on it being incorrect.

  • I'm singing this song for my high school recital. I love singing this song.

    Nice job.

    I made a video of myself =]

  • I'm a contralto and I sang this song as well in a recent performance. I loved performing this piece....

  • Very Nice! :)

  • si però un mezzo si sente anche nel registro grave!!!
