Movie | Crossing 10 of 10

Crossing is a Korean movie which is going to be aired in late June 2008. The movie is based on a real story about the life of a North Korean defector and his family.

Actor Cha In-pyo starred as a North Korean coal miner who crossed illegally into China to get medicine for his wife. His wife passed away soon after he crossed the border, and he was separated from his 11-year-old son (played by Shin Myung-chul) who was trying to trace him from North Korea.

The story shares the hardship of North Korean refugees in the late 1990s, with famine striking the country and killed an estimated 1 million people.

The North Koreans couldnt cross into South Korea directly because of landmines and heavy military presence at the border these defectors had to cross into China and made a de-tour to South Korea instead.

The Chinese government, an ally of the North Korean regime, does not recognize the defectors as refugees and would send them back to North Korea to face stiff action.

Crossing will represent South Korea as a candidate for the foreign film category at the 81st Academy Awards.

  • He went through so much... And lost it all...

  • I thought it would be an happy ending but unfortunately...

    Very very sad !!

  • such a sad movie, :c i fought tears back at the end...

  • kim ill sung , kim jong ill and kim jun onn , super fat pig fuckers , they eat until they become so fat and let others to be starved to death .they put their own peoples in the concentration camp.this is what happened when stupid fat pig runs the country

  • Most heart gripping movie I've ever seen. No Hollywood stunts, but showing one of many hardships of the people of DPRK. More people who demonize the North Korea need to see this. It's the government that's to blame, not the people. I pray that grace like rain will shower on the people of North Korea soon.

  • and dont forget, economically speaking, north koreans are uneduated and hence they can only do low-wage jobs and thus contribute little to the economy. so govts see little incentive to help them. with all due respect to north koreans, we still need to help them!!

  • people might be asking, why does the china govt not help north korean refugees?? its not just about giving money and aid and help to them! there are possible implications to that. for example by doing so this might undermine north korea's sovereignty and weaken relations btwn both countries!! worse is most governments work with limited budgets and the fact that they have their own problems means n koreans once caught get sent back.

  • @saisonqwerty Well said.

Too bad that psychics and people who can see in the future have predicted that North Korea is going to attack South Korea and Japan in 2012. My source was Projectavalon net, and then look for psychic predictions for 2012.

    I hope they are wrong.

  • I have read many comments and according to those comments I read I realized how most people dont have ill thoughts about the North Korean people themselves but the government...I am glad that people are supportive towards these people...For awhile I thought most people would just go by the progpaganda that they have been fed .....Thanks to Youtube we are able see somethings that we couldnt before and this educates us and we are able to see whats really going on....
