  • Please can you tell me which programme this excerpt is from?

  • @bingbong9396

This is from the excellent BBC documentary series 'Civilisation', created, written and presented by Sir Kenneth Clarke. You should be able to buy it from any DVD/Blu-Ray outlet.

  • Sir Kenneth Clarkes's BBC Civilization series?

  • @Euphobia1

None other. Even though it is somewhat antiquated now, I personally enjoyed it.

  • Happy to say, I've read two of Tolstoy's novels; "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina". Great books, and a great writer.

"A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral."

    - Leo Tolstoy

  • "its only a small step from the murder of animals to trhe murder of people" commenting about hunting animals and murdering them for our taste buds.

these factory farms are worse than any nazi death camp.

  • for it is War and Peace for long as man lives....

  • Salam! Extraordinary. I was amazed when I first saw a photograph of Count Tolstoy. And now, I am even more amazed to see him on film.

  • ➀ [Excerpt from letter #607 on p. 717 of "Tolstoy's Letters, Vol. II: 1880-1910" by R.F. Christian (1978) : To S.L. Tolstoy and T.L. Sukhotina, Astapovo (Аста́пово), 1 Nov. 1910 : “The views you have acquired about Darwinism, evolution and the struggle for existence won't explain to you the meaning of your life and won't give you guidance in your actions, and a life without an explanation of its meaning and importance,

  • ➁ and without the unfailing guidance that stems from it is a pitiful existence. Think about it. I say it, probably on the eve of my death, because I love you. /// Good-bye; try to calm your mother, for whom I have the most genuine feeling of compassion and love. – Your loving father, L. Tolstoy (Tolstoy lost consciousness at 5 A.M. on Nov. 7, 1910 and died an hour later.)]

  • it's wonderfull!
