Myself growing up a Mopar fan with my Mom&Dad was a huge fan of Big Daddy Don Garlits! You can't beat a Hemi powered Dodge man, they rule the drag strip end of story.
I agree,Nhra has done drag racing some what dumb for them self,it can't be so hard to slow down the nitro cars?Cange gear, smaller blower or one sparkplug per cylinder, the sport is all about driving 1/4 mile,as fast you possiblie can!I also knew that it saves parts when it's only 1000 fet.Drag racing is 1/4 mile they said the same thing in the late 90's when they where geting close 300 mph,if they could get the speed to 300mph and change the rules.
2,000 hp? There's 10.5 cars running that now. Hell, there's STREET LEGAL cars running that power level. Top fuel cars now are in excess of 8,000 hp. Insane what 30+ years of R&D does to advance technology, huh?

Bubble-Up car was always my favorite as a kid. Jerry Verhuel was a great tuner who passed much too soon

And the funny cars now all look alike. Back then, a Firebird looked like a Firebird, a Mustang looked like a Mustang.
