VINNIE VINSON: These clips probably weren't in the same show. Jonelle, the receptionist, plays the roller derby woman. Bob Larson played the sports guy.
The high table was used for many things, including the nightly newsbreaks. It was made by David Miller without proper tools. As I remember, I think we had to wedge some paper under one end to keep it from rocking. Still, it was a great job.
I believe the telethon sketch was directly inspired by the PBS telethon on "Tush" from TBS in Atlanta. I had some tapes of the show at the station, and everyone loved them.
We didn't have many resources for publicity. I got the idea of trying to get some radio morning guys to come for the taping. I invited Steve Gibbons of KRNT, and he came. George Vincent, creator and star of "The $100 Movie," invited Doug McKinnon. McKinnon appeared as his alter ego, Lionel Lipshitz, whose brain and helicopter engine didn't hit on all cylinders.
I was also the station artist. The crappy tote board was a quick Magic Marker job.
Actually, the station could have used a telethon to bring in some cash. In the early days, cash flow wasn't good. Mainly, it flowed outward.
I LOVED this show when it was on. I've been wanting clips or tapes of all or any of these. Please post more.
