A delightful performance by Bade Gazi Khan Jeena Manganiyar, the legendary singer from the Manganiyar community of Western Rajasthan, India. The Manganiyars perform at various festive occasions. Their music displays the influence of Indian classical as well as Sufi traditions. They play a variety of instruments. The Khamaycha (a string instrument played with a bow) can be played only by the Manganiyars. The wood clappers are called Khartal. This clip is from Tony Gatlif's Latcho Drom, a film about folk music and the music of the gypsies from around the world.
Since there are several artists with the name Ghazi Khan in the Maganiyar community, it gets confusing to sort them out. I think I have identified the correct artist here.

Such an amazing performer!! The mother of all kinds of music, I think. Where it was only played by one "casta" of indians (present gypsies) when music was unacceptable by the rest.. Im up to find the film, thanks again Any other suggestions gypsy music movies or documentaries, perhaps?
