Okay, now since we don't know great grandpa's actual fate, isn't it entirely possible that this is how he died the first time? And that being the case, wouldn't he have already sired all the offspring necessary to bring about warren's existence?

Also, could just have been a great grandad from an alternate timeline and Warren would just wink out of existence there and not here in the kitchen with Emily. :=)

Alternate timelines sound good on paper. But I think they're kind of a cop-out when it comes to a time travel story. There'd be no danger to time traveling. And where's the fun in that? Bettter to just revel in the paradox.

Personally, I like the idea of time/natural forces having to catch up only once a truth is pointed out - a la wile e. coyote running off the cliff and only falling once he stops to look down.

No, i think technically, the time traveler would just never have been born. he'd just never exist. there wouldn't be a disappearing scene much less a chance to discuss the issue... except for the sake of cinematic liberties (nervous laugh).
