hey i have a question. do you guys keep kicking while riding the wave or do you just let the wave do all the work. cas whenever im body surfing i could never beat the barrel or watever you call it. i always get swallowed up. is that because im not kicking?

The trick is get as much speed as you can so you can match the speed of the wave, otherwise you'll get swallowed up. Basically you're not going fast enough.

Here's a good technique I use, dolphin kick until you feel the wave under you, once you've matched it's speed then enjoy the ride, do tricks, or just ride it.

But dolphin kick, you'll go much faster.

You're not allowed to surf here, it's a 'bodysurfing' only beach.

We only have one break on the whole island that's dedicated to bodysurfing only. That's this break, Point Panics.

@ironmonnkey15 I got the fins...its pretty awesome and gives me a big advantage at the back where I cannot stand or push away with my feet off the ground.

I don't use them where I can stand though. #lifechanging

@surfer201 We do bodysurfing in South Africa in Cape Town. I have been body surfing since childhood, but have never employed fins...only arms and kicking like a mad man. I will buy some fins this week and try it out.

It's not as "pipey" down here, but I just want to start competing with those nasty surfers ;)
