Recorded live March 27, 2010, at The Sound Studios in Charlottesville, Virginia.

John D'earth - trumpet
Darrell Rose - African percussion
James McLaughlin - drums

camera: David Eklund

This is the first "band gig" I've had in over a year. Thanks to John, James and Darrell for putting up with my rustiness. "Black Dog Strut" is an original tune of mine, loosely inspired by the Led Zeppelin tune "Black Dog", and named for my dear friend and walkies buddy, Ambrose, a high-energy black Lab.

Please pardon my clumsy video editing, I'm learning...

CHARLOTTESVILLE GIG: JUNE 4
This same band will be playing C-Ville Coffee (they also serve beer and wine and food) on Friday June 4th. Music starts at 8:00 only $5 cover.

See you there!

  • Great piece and fun to listen (and watch). Thanks for sharing, Greg!

BTW, this setup sounds very "acoustic" though the Stick is electric

    and MIDI-fyed :)

  • @karli34 Thanks for the kind comment. Glad you like the sound. I've been using the same basic rig for a long time. All the sounds are just effects processors, with no MIDI triggered sounds at all. Just thought you'd like to know.

    More to come,

    Greg

  • Wonderful presentation of lively music -- hey Greg, we're just down the road in Lynchburg at Liberty University. Come see us too! Would be wonderful to have you visit and inspire. Liberty has a huge investment in music education!

  • Now that is future jazz.

  • AMAZING!!

  • @gregplaysthestick ... sorry about the MIDI misinterpretation ;)

  • My congats, Greg!

Stick and trumpet is absolutely classic of Jazz-rock! Good job by drumm-perc section.

Very nice and elite refined music!

  • @JohnFredC

    I agree ....

  • Now we're talking. I much prefer this new "rustiness" to your previous styles.
