When I was about eight years old, I was spending the night at a friend's house. I was sleeping on the floor of his bedroom, and as the house grew quiet this song came on the little radio he had. I was so moved by it,(as a child, mind you), that I had to go home. Thus began my love affair with the music of my hero, Mark Knopfler.

This is why I love Mark. At 7:06 he knows his part is over IN HIS OWN SONG. And he stops and appreciates the beauty of the orchestra. He knows its one of the few times he will have them as a backing for his music. The nod at 7:43 just sums it up. This man knows and appreciates music. How many modern day artists would you find doing that. I'm sure most would just feel like they deserve to be there, but Mark acts like he is always honoured to be in the presence of other talented musicians. Soul.
