This photo essay highlights the importance of roads to Delhis culture. Roads provide a way to commute, a livelihood for street-side vendors, and a means by which people connect. The essay touches upon some of the challenges surrounding roads, including accessibility for the handicapped, cleanliness, and street beggars. In addition, it focuses on the ways that the city is tackling these problems (for instance, flyovers and the new metro system). Ultimately, the essay calls for continued innovation in road technology and maintenance to ensure that Delhi retains its reputation as the heart of India.
