Adobe Photoshop CS4: 3D Capabilities

In this video I demonstrate the new features in Adobe Photoshop CS4 extended. Today I will be looking at the new 3D capabilities not found in the previous Creative Suite (CS3 Extended).

Features demonstrated:

O Converting 2D images to 3D shapes
- The new "3D" menu
- Conversion to 3D

O Working with 3D shapes
- Moving the 3D object
- Rotating the 3D object
- Scaling the 3D object

O Painting on 3D objects
- Using regular Photoshop tools eg. brush, dodge, smudge on 3D shapes
- Paint remains when rotating

O Editing a flat texture
- Painting on the flat texture of the object
- Exporting it onto the object

O 3D Advanced Workspace
- Lighting tools
- Materials
- Textures
- Other 3D tools

My thoughts on the 3D capabilities
I am very impressed with the 3D tools and how fast they are. I think it is amazing that I can use all the tools for 2D images on the 3D shape. I think editing the flat texture could do with a live preview as you are making changes whilst blind.

There is a good selection of shapes eg. sphere, cube. But one thing that disappoints me is there is no ability to create a custom shape with lines. They should have added that feature instead of making the pointless "hat" shape.

My thoughts on the program as a whole
The regular tools run incredibly fast when editing 2D images and run a lot faster than expected on 3D shapes. There are a few minor additions which will speed up productivity which is very good.

However, I feel very angry at Adobe as they say they have lots of new features powered by your graphics card. If you don't have a good system then these are useless to you.

What Adobe have just added is something to make the faster computers faster. Not all tools work if you have a bad graphics card (that means me and my 72mb Unicorn :P).

I will demonstrate canvas rotation, panning, zooming and other OpenGL features when I get a new computer in December.

u know how to fix errors like,

when going to have a 3d text,

it says "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY IN YOUR RAM"

can you help me plss T_T

@01carlyn Go to "My computer">Advanced system settings>Advanced Tab>Performance settings>Advanced then increase your virtual memory. That process may not be exactly right, just have a look around in there till you find it.

@MrTuhinBagh no,, i do have graphics card, gforce 210 series, and i have 3G of ram,, but he only reads 1024mb of ram, and its equal only to 1G of ram T_T

n tick all ur hard-drive partion as scratch pads...!

Cs3 is an outdated software u should upgrade :D ;) try pirates bay xD

nice vid but im having problems.. :( because i have photoshop cs4 right ok problem is that my 3D category is not working all options are unselectable and i dont know if that means that i need a video card graphics i dont know :(
