Students Buzzing About Budget Cuts - "I didn't have any financial aid, so we're paying for it all out of my dad's pocket. And it's pretty expensive so now it's just going to be even more expensive." (Omar Gomez, UCI student)
With a reduction of almost $800 million in federal funding for the California State University and University of California systems, students around Orange County are buzzing about the budget implications.
"I've heard of some friends that aren't able to graduate when they'd like because the classes that they need to graduate aren't being offered so they have to pay extra for summer school or stay an extra quarter." (Catherine Tran, UCI student)
"I'm just more concerned about one of my professors because she's one of my favorites and she was actually saying something in class like her name isn't going to be on the registration online until after the budget cuts." (Emily Kim, UCI student)
While final cuts have not yet been made, tuition hikes have been approved for both the Cal State and UC system and several schools will limit their incoming class in the fall of 2009.
UC President, Mark Yudof, speaking at a budget hearing at the State Capitol, What were most fearful about are the 2 things UCs are known for. One is access and were also very concerned about our role in research.
And, in a recent memo to all CSU employees, Chancellor Charles B Reed wrote:
Our message to legislators has been clear: Continued reductions to the CSUs budget will erode our ability to educate and graduate the students that are critical to the states economic success.
With the failure of all revenue generating propositions in last month's election, students and staff at the California universities are anxiously awaiting outcome of renewed budget discussions. Reporting from Cal State Fullerton, I'm Troy Witt for OCNewsChannel.com.

What economic success 0o!?? For years, a lot of excess spending and wasteful expenses for various Califonia programs and services. And the many special interest groups..some which include the Universities and Colleges, Teachers Unions, School Boards and Principals, the Union Workers of these Colleges and Universities too. Also factor in the staged economic crises by the elite and their dark spiritual masters inorder to setup their NWO.
