so basically the point of a steam trap is turn the steam into condensate, so that steam doesnt get into the condensate pipe system?

@CrabKing05 The purpose of a steam trap is to create a barrier with steam on one side and condensate (hot water) on the other. Steam 'becomes' condensate when it 'loses' sufficient energy... the same way a hot coffee becomes cold when left unattended. A steam trap is like a border guard... it will let condensate pass (because it has used up most of its energy in warming a radiator or driving a piece of machinery) but will stop steam (because it hasn't done enough work yet and has energy left).
