"Well, there wasn't a dive," he said of his 1999 fight against Allan Vester in Denmark. "It wasn't like someone paid me to do this. I just felt out of order, out of place."

He complained of the gloves, which he said were too soft, and of landing a monster hook that had no effect on Vester. Augustus was flustered.

He told his trainer that he would hang around and wait to be knocked out, and that's just what he did. With seconds left in the 12-round bout, Vester caught Augustus with nothing, and Augustus fell as if he had been shot, losing the bout by knockout.

"That was a mistake that I made early in my career because of me being stupid and big-headed," he said. "At that point, I was so stupid and backwards in boxing."
