To support GCSE SHP Crime and Punishment. Highway robbery was one of the most infamous and feared crimes of the Early Modern period. It was not a new crime, but it became much more frequent during this period because there were increased opportunities for travel & many people were wealthier.
The popular view of the highwayman is glamorous, whilst reality was somewhat different. This film introduces the popular glamorous image whilst the reality was somewhat more treacherous, cruel and violent.
Useful for a starter activity at GCSE level for students to watch and recall facts. Extension question. Where does the popular glamorous image of highwaymen come from?
Music: Adam & the Ants: Song: Stand and Deliver. Images and music used for educational purposes only.
