Pullups are the all-around best exercise for lats but it takes a lot of strength to do them, a catch-22 of sorts. This video clip shows three ways you can do assisted pullups until you are strong enough to do them on your own. For more information on home workouts, please see my free website:

This video shows some simple mechanical apparatus for doing assisted pullups. Please make sure all the components are properly rated for at least 2X the maximum load, only quality mountaineering components should be used. If you are not competent to build such a system, please consult a mechanical engineer or professional mountaineer. The video shows the use of a belt, this is only appropriate for very light weights, for heavier weights a mountaineering harness should be used.

Anyone can be healthier, have more energy, sleep better, and feel better about themselves through bodybuilding. Bodybuilding doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time, gyms are great but home workouts can save you time and money. A cheap dumbbell set from a garage sale or walmart is all it takes to get started with your home workouts.

  • hello scooby...im just starting to work out...i weight 180 lbs...not much muscle yet...im trying to gain some muscle weight, should i do some cardio first to lose some weight and then begin lifting...or should i just lift and do less cardio?

  • Good question! Cardio is WAY more important than weights when you are making a big transformation like this. Not only is cardio what you need most for general health but removing the bodyfat allows you to make very rapid appearance improvement.

  • good setup. man, i can do like 7 or 8 underhand grip pullups. overhand grip i can do like 3 or 4. so to do more reps for both, should i add weight and do as many as i can, or should i just keep on trying to do more reps with my own weight.?

  • If you can do 3/4 overhand pullups, I would work on getting that number up to 8-10 before adding weight. Do your 3 pullups then without rest use the chair method to do 8 more reps of negatives. My guess that will build you up to 8-10 in a few months.

  • Great advice, I'll try the chair one, thanks.

  • If you are almost strong enough to do pullups unassisted, the chair method is great. If you are not close to being able to do a pullup then the pulley method works best.

  • It's fine to do it with your knees bent, that's a personal preference. I do that because otherwise my feet touch the bottom because I do them in a doorway. In gyms they have you step up so you can have straight legs at fully straightened arms. Maybe it helps to focus on the arms or something (curling knee takes slight focus) but pulling is pulling.

  • how many pullups should i be able to do to no that i dont have to do the chair spotter method thing

  • YOU'RE FUCCIN HOT DUDE...NEXT TIME DO IT IN SPEEDOz....OR....NOTHING AT ALL...LOL...ME LIKE IT...
