For more information about this instrument, contact the builder, Jack Peters, at http://www.jackpeters.com/. This is a replica of a fretted clavichord built in Frankfurt around 1670 by Israel Gellinger. The naturals are made of olive wood and the accidentals of ebony. This instrument was just built, and I am "breaking it in" for Jack. I transposed the Preludio from Bach's Violin Partita No. 3 from E major to G major to fit the range of the instrument. The clavichord is extremely responsive, and I find its warm, fruity tone to be peculiarly attractive.

  • what if you want to hold a long note like you do on the piano when you press the pedal ???

    someone plzzz reply :) ...

  • @EmilyRules971 There are no pedals on the clavichord: if you want to hold a note, you have to keep your finger on it. The tone of the clavichord has a short decay, so a note dies away much more quickly than on a piano.

  • Don't mean to be a snob, but the clavichord actually taps the strings from beneath with what is similar to the tip of a flat blade screwdriver. In doing so, it acts much like a fret on a guitar. Note that at the end he presses up and down on the keys to provide a bit of vibrato - the tangents are pressing against the strings from beneath and he's bending the strings with additional pressure. Fantastic instrument, fantastic performance! You play very well. Thanks!

  • Beautiful!

  • Fantastic. Surgeon is inspired.

  • I stood up and clapped! thank you ;)

  • can anyone tell me the difference between that and piano?

all i know is that of course makes different sound and

piano acts like a hammer to make the sound but this hits it from down-up

  • Can you upload a recording of the Mozart's First Harpsichord Concert in D Major KV. 107 played on one of your harpsichords? Specially the first movement, I will thank you so much. :)

  • I want one!

  • @pyr666 That's the fault of the mic, recording. I have a replica clavichord (a Zuckermann) and the action noise is not at all that obvious in the room when it is just played. to hear what it really sounds like, turn the vol. down until you almost can't hear. The actual musical sounds in a quiet room is much louder, but you almost can't hear the action at all. Here's an aside: play for about an hour all by yourself & just when you've entered clavichord nirvana, the phone rings. It's like a bomb.

  • nice song.

does this thing usually have a cover over the strings? because i can hear the action.
