GP9e and F7 with Soundtraxx Tsunami making a run.

Please note the trailing GP20 has a QSI sound decoder. MAN, can you tell a difference. QSI sounds like Salsa music. Looks like I will be changing a few decoders out, LOL.

  • Great video, thanks!

How do you acheive that subtle dusty weathered look on the GP9 and what do you use for ballast, it looks so real!

  • @ZetanCrisp

For the ballast I usedArizonaa Rock dirt and low desert soil. As for theweatheredd look. After I finished putting decals on I sprayed with a dull coat. I waited about 45 minutes and then used powders of gray, dirt and black. The dull coat was still just a bit tacky and they stuck well and blended in well.

  • @sitchad Thanks, it all looks so real.

Do the Tsunami chips have the option of manual throttle notching?

  • @ZetanCrisp

Yes, they can be set to auto notching or manual notching.

  • Cool good job. can i ask where you got that loco in SP paints? im modeling the North Coast Railroad and i am having the hardest time finding a GP9 or GP9e..

    thanks

    -Chad

  • Both started out as P2K GP9's. Each was stripped and painted then detailed for each version. If you are going to strip the paint off one of these 91% alcohol works great. Soak it for about 8 hours and the paint comes right off.

  • How do you do the start-up and shut-down on Athearn units? The club I'm at uses Digitrax DT400's

  • The 567 sound of the Tsunami is sweet! I'm a big fan of Tsunami and plan on installing one on my Genesis FP45. My criticism of Tsunami is the lack of synchronization between throttle rpms and locomotive movement. Not a big issue for road engines but for switching service where back and forth movements are frequent, it is obvious. Still overall, I like it and will go with Tsunami's and LokSound for my HO fleet. Thanks for posting this vid :-)

  • VERY realistic! I coud practically see the exhaust! I suppose that with models, that would be a bad thing... I thought my GP40's decoder was smoking one time. Scared the crud outta me... It was a cobweb....
