Could somebody suggest a good cheap webcam and some resolve to how to get my microphone to record any better sound quality? Is it the soundcard, the program i'm using or the microphone (though bare in mind i've just bought a new phillips one)

Best bet is to get a webcam/mic that just plugs into the usb. I've had no problems ever with usb mics and webcams.

Before you buy a new webcam... get some more light.. web cams are notoriously bad in low light.
