Grundig G3 on 60 meters receiving a couple of stations. With and without use of the SYNC, Synchronous Detection helps with holding and locking onto a station in weak, crowded and fading band conditions..... Very effective on the G3! The SYNC imparts almost a FM quality to the received signal!
Purchased this radio in late November 2009 and it has been working better all the time, must be braking in!

  • Poikaa- I've heard the G3 has a less powerful Amplifier=lower volume but it seems the G3 really locks onto stations better and has less background noise and hiss than G5 - Is this correct?

    Thanks.

  • @robertkoascorpio When you get a late serial number unit it can be a good one! Remember I was using a external antenna, a long wire, running out side. Band conditions were very good when I recorded this. Not to downplay the receiver, The SYNC locks on to most signals well and brings a better sound to stations that are fading and in crowded band conditions. With an external antenna the SYNC shines as it pulls out stations! It is a very good rig for the money!

  • Thank you for sharing this with us. Great video!

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams For the money spent on this radio, it works well and is worth every penny! Thanks for the nice comment!

  • What is the volume level do you normally use in case of signal strength around S 7 ? Thanks

  • @pempek40 Depending if I am using headphones or the built in speaker, usually no more than 20. Not sure in this video as I did not feature the volume level. The G3 keeps it's volume when you turn the rig off and defaults to 22 when the batteries expire and are renewed. Comparing the audio to the E5, G5 I would say the G3 is a bit quieter but not a whole amount. 73!

I have a G3 that I bought a while ago, and I just found that on the memory tagging page that if you select a comma in the name and scroll over to finish tagging it, it turns into an apostrophe, and when I select an apostrophe, it turns into a comma. Have you had this problem?

  • I can barely get any reception at all on any station, even when it says I have good signal. Did I maybe get a lemon?

  • Wow, on 5060kHz, a Japanese song is on air. I don't know the title, but I clearly understand what the girls are saying in the song. I'm very interested in G3. Thank you for uploading.

  • 1.Do you find that mostly we can sync at 1KHz lower the center but never at 1Khz upper and even many times if sync at the center easly loose ..1khz lower will lock better.

2.Mine. S meter is working perfectly at FM but at AM initial S meter is at 3 with battery and 1 at power adaptor..it should be 0 . Any solution? If I change the IC TA7640AP as S meter of G3 comes from here do you think it doesn't change any adjustment attached to this IC?

    tks 73
