Elton performs live in Rock in Rio, Brazil, on September 24, 2011.
"Levon" is a song written and recorded by Elton John with lyrics[1] written by Bernie Taupin. It is from John's fourth album Madman Across the Water and was recorded on February 27, 1971.[2] The song reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Levon wears his war wound like a crown
He calls his child Jesus
'Cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in town
Levon, Levon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
Spends his days counting
In the garage by the motorway
He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas Day
When the New York Times said God is dead
And the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Levon
Levon sells cartoon balloons in town
His family business thrives
Jesus blows up balloons all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly
And Jesus, he wants to go to Venus
leaving Levon far behind
Take a balloon and go sailing
While Levon, Levon slowly dies
He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas Day
When the New York Times said God is dead
And the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today"
TRADUÇÃO:
Levon ostenta sua ferida de guerra como se fosse uma coroa
Ele chama seu filho de Jesus, porque ele gosta do nome
E para a mais fina escola da cidade o enviou
Levon... Levon gosta de seu dinheiro
Dizem que ele fez dinheiro aos montes
E passa seus dias a contá-lo
Numa garagem à beira da auto-estrada
Ele nasceu mais pobre
Do que um peão no dia de natal
Quando deu no New York Times
Que Deus havia morrido e que a guerra havia começado
Alvin Tostig tem um filho hoje
E ele há de ser Levon
E ele há de ser um bom homem
Ele há de ser Levon
De acordo com os planos da família
E ele há de ser Levon
E ele há de ser um bom homem
Ele há de ser Levon
Levon vende balões de desenhos na cidade
É seu próspero negócio de família
Enquanto Jesus estoura balões o dia todo
Sentado no balanço da varanda a vê-los voarem
Quanto a Jesus, ele quer ir a Vênus
Deixando Levon para trás
Ele segura num balão e sai navegando
Enquanto Levon... Levon morre lentamente
One of my favorite songs from one of my first albums. My sister and I would sing along to this well before we were teenagers. I was 9 years old. I'm so glad he is still writing singing & performing. Elton John rules. Still jams on the piano. Whatever happened to musical role models like this for young kids? I mean Justin Bieber, really? Elton needs to have a talk with that poser. The key to Elton is that he was very good before he became famous. Most famous people are good at nothing but fame.

@eineeuqe This passage is from The incredible marquis by Herbert Gorman entitled the soldier of fortune(chapter six) It was natural that Dumas believed implicitly in the magic of somnambulism, in animal magnetism and in chiromancy. No Haitian negro dancing before his Voodoo altar was more superstitious than Dumas. Home, to Dumas, therefore, was an authentically inspired adept in communicating with unseen world.
