Attempting to get a sound from my erhu!

I have the "bridge" in place, and the dampener. The bow is rosined using a normal block of violin rosin and goes between the two strings. I believe I'm holding the bow correctly (like I would hold a pen, pushing against the hair to give it tension).

  • @JianZhou umm i need help can you help me :(

  • @dragon4117 it is an erhu. not zhonghu or gaohu. all comes in different shapes, round, 6-sided, 8-sided, and of different material, you can have glass erhu, jade ones. you cant conclude that its not a erhu. but based on the video, the size is an erhu and that the sound it produced when not enough rosin is placed is definitely an erhu. cheers! =)

  • hope i'm not too late in replying ur video and that u still have ur instrument with u. i also believed that you do not have rosin dust on your bow. you'll need to rub the rosin hard enough and of many times for the first time if you are playing from the new bow, on both sides. it's normal if the first time you play, the dust will fly all over.. =)

pm me if you need more instructions. have experience of 10 years of playing erhu here. =))

  • anyone ever tell you that you look like the doctor from doctor who.

  • @naruto101120 thats what i wuz saying, it might not be the right 'version' but thats not the most important part

  • @dragon4117

erhu has lots of shapes even round

  • Your bow and erhu position is wrong besides putting your bow in front of u turn it beside u on your left side.

  • Yeah dude, take a key and hack the surface of the rosin up. Then rosin the crap out of the bow. You'll need to put heaps on there, to the point that while you're playing you get white rosin dust all over the place. Clean it up after you play though, it can be tough to get off if you leave it on there for too long..

  • Definitely not enough rosin. If the rosin is new, you may have to rough up (ie sandpaper) the rosin surface a bit beforehand.

  • you may not have enough roasin on your bow i play violin so i know that if you don't have enough you woun't get sound!
