Dr. Dawn Christenson tells the MSU Board of Trustees why their program should not be eliminated in the proposed new round of budget cuts. Video by Bonnie Bucqueroux for Lansing Online News
They needed to pursue this in a business manner rather than a sympathetic manner...The board is composed of people looking at dollars and the problem is the pass fail rate in the program was too high...There were warning signs but the faculty did not want to confront them. Yes it is a good program it does however need some evaluation to make it more successful....They are looking at numbers. There was too much sympathetic tone addressed to the board...Which they want facts and figures
I sincerely hope that they manage to save this program. Vets need technicians like doctors need trained nurses. They are an integral part of the veterinary world and this wonderful program deserves to be saved!
I wish I could have been there. I am an MSU Bachelors of Veterinary Technology alumni from 2005. The news hit me so hard.... this program is amazing. I can't tell you how much this education has helped me, what an experience it has been. I really hope she persuaded them to change their minds... does anyone know the final ruling??
Congratulations to the Veterinary Technology program for banding together and fighting against the administration. Closing the Vet Tech program is a short-sighted decision and the Michigan State University administration should be ashamed of themselves for not recognizing how important this program is, not only to the university, but to veterinary medicine as a whole.
