The great thing was, Obama took all these personal attacks and used them to say the McCain campaign was diverting away from real debates and talk of the future. The Republicans were well and truly beaten in that election, and in many ways they caused their own defeat.

The reason Obama is even addressing the issue is because 'the media' would accuse him of being a coward if he didn't. The phrase "putting lipstick on a pig" is an old one - a phrase that MCCAIN has used in several speeches. And because Palin runs around making lame lipstick-bulldog-hockeymom jokes, the Republicans are trying to make it look like Obama was out to get her. Maybe they should pick up a book or two?
