what size strings are you using? and what about your amp and pedals?

I think I was using 9s, with heavier bottom strings. It was through a Yamaha DG100, which is a very nice modelling amp with built in effects.

sweet. thanks man. after hearing your tones, ive decided not to switch to 10s. what gauge are the bottom strings?

I use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys - 9-46. I find on a Strat they give that bell-like tone on the high notes with plenty of fat tone in the bass. I tried 10s, but playing with fingers I found I couldn't get the subtleties and the big bends I get with 9s, and to be honest I don't think it makes that much difference to tone - 13s might, but I like to keep my fingers in one piece!
