The weld on the track was common on ungated crossings, it means the driver has to slow down or shake his teeth out! It also lets the driver and guard know they are on the crossing in fog!
Too Common!! It's still horrid!! To be fair the noise the crossings make lets you know you have arrived. lol.

yeah, it has a thin strip of metal welded to the top of the track, I assume to slow down the trains.
