You're right, that wasn't such a controversy, and that was rather more justified than, for example, Vietnam. I was trying more to point out the ridiculousness of the Cold War in itself, by using Korea to show how the country was pulled apart because of the U.S. and S.U.

THe government are slimy bastards and the only way they can start corrupt conflcits is to draft people. They used corruption to make this happen. Drafting people was massively corrupt. It was human rights abuses. I think i would of gone to canada to seek refuge

My draft number was number 63. I served a total of 26 years in the Army.

first of all only about 1/3 of all draftees went to vietnam the others went to other duty stations like texas or georgia.. most vietnam vets

, about 65% were volunteers. the next issue is that draftees as a group make much better soldiers than volunteers because they tend to be more mature,intelligent and better educated. draftees do a better job of representing society at large while volunteers especially in the marines and army are more likely to come from lower socioeconomic groups.

HOW THE HELL DID ALL THE MINORITIES AND POOR WHITES END UP IN THE INFANTRY ON FOOT PATROLS IN NAM ??? the priviliged ,somehow got drafted into the airforce, coastgaurd or some other non combat military service.the draft was anything BUT a random lottery

Funny how George W. Bush serving in the Texas Air NG is mentioned as a bad thing even though he served and learned to fly jets and very well could've been sent over to Nam. No mention of Biden's numerous deferments though is there?
