A wireless Wii Nunchuck (Nunchuck and small receiver pair) is being "read" by an Arduino microcontroller and used as a hand controller for my self-balancing skateboard (see my other videos).
This hack has only recently been described.

The 'Chuck has a 3 axis accelerometer, 2 buttons and a proper proportional thumb joystick. Both 'chuck and Arduino are low cost so this could form really neat basis of many projects where a short range wireless control system is required. In this clip I am using the joystick to steer left and right, then I switch to using the accelerometers: tilt left to turn anticlockwise and tilt right to turn clockwise.
I can also fine tune the balance point by using the forward/back motion of the joystick.
Based on code by Chad Phillips, Mike Dreher, Björn Giesler and more work by Mike Dreher (see forum link above).

  • It is a Blue Ocean wireless chuck. The window in the receiver is long and rectangular. Also look at the shape of the on/off switch. There is a photo in my instructables - it is the right hand one in the photo of two wireless chucks. I would give you a link but youtube will just block it.

  • hi, would this setup work on a tricopter with pitch control for roll and pitch? i.e. roll alerons pitch elevators. and throttle. but the three blades in a yform tricopter would be working together to make a movement in the direction desired.

  • What's the nunchuk's brand?

  • i've seen how to build the mono wheel on instructables but how do you make the twin wheeler and the wireless wii nunchuck, if you could get back to me that'd be great :D really cool and simply just amazing, i want to make one for myself but i dont know where to start xD any help would be much appreciated thanks xD and great job again :P

  • this is amazing man. arduino rocks!
