    can a grafted tree be buried above the graft point to cause root growth of the top variety?

  • Yes, it doesn't always work and isn't ideal, better to aerial layer or take root cuttings from an original tree. But you can bury the graft, the scion will often root out, ideally dig it up, remove rootstock, reduce top and replant.
