You may be right. There's no way to tell for sure what's in another person's heart. But...I'll bet my pension that if another black candidate had a legit shot at winning (e.g. Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton), Matthews would be in their corner.
You have to understand that Matthews' guiding belief is civil rights. He was a youngster who bought into the JFK Camelot thing and his motivating force has always been the black struggle for equality. He's one of the white liberals who are Obama-philes because of the race issue...forget about any particular Obama policy positions, whether he's experienced enough, etc. Matthews is in his corner 100% because he views it as a step forward on the racial issue.
To be honest Matthews has been criticized of being pro-Obama - no surprise there. For this reason, he has tried to be more balanced in discussing the democratic candidates. Despite his efforts to be objective, it is obvious to the viewer that he admires Obama. I hope the democrats can unite. They really are the only hope. Here's to Democratic unity. Cheers!
Matthews is not a racist, he is the quite the oppostite. When he said "white nation" he was referring to numbers, demographics, power structure, etc. Why do people take two words ("white nation") and automatically assume it is racist? You need to hear ALL the words - the whole context - and also know about the intent, circumstance, etc before making a judgement. There are REAL racists out there, and it is sad when a good person like Chris Matthews is called one. Peace.
Who gives a shit about JFK and the magic bullet, the bullet the stupid people believed in? Any body with a brain no's that the story the warren commission sold to the dumb people was false.

That's probably just the icing on the cake. Anyone who votes for Obama has to at least somewhat agree with his policy positions, after all.
