i did trek 30 this past summer! we got caught in the fire that was 1 mile away from our camp and had to evacuate on the second night

i did the trip with lyme's diesease, medicated on stuff that makes your skin very sensetive to the sun so i could not expose my skin for long periods of time even my hands had burned a layer of skin off so i had to wear gloves. well the trek was about 90 miles my crew consisted of about 3 different troops i was from troop 74

Made this trip with Troop 3 in 1966. My older brother was a ranger for 3 years there and was running the mess hall the year I went. I was so proud and happy to see him so far from home. Philmont looks the same but the world has changed. Even the great flood they had when my brother was a ranger there could not destroy its natural beauty and my introduction to it. Nice video.

Nice to see it still looks the same as did back in '96 and '98 when I went. It truly is a life changing experience. The best memory I have is watching the sun rise from the top of Comanche Peak. Every scout should have a chance to make this trek it really is something else. I hope that I can go back someday.
