I think Motown had more and better artists overall but Stax had that rawness to it's sound and artists. Mainly because of Otis & Isaac. Motown was like the Beatles in their beginning period with tight suits and clean hair, Stax was like the later Beatles period with experiment, exciting feeling and wildness. Both great labels.
