My mates & I travelled up from Basildon. Inside the atmosphere was dark, dank and moody. A mixture of hardcore antz fans, skins and locals. I seem to remember they played with two kits, started with a glitter cover. Dark violent sound, shafts of white light, strobes and sweat. This was transitional. I’d seen them in the summer at the lyceum but this was on a different level, tighter and starting to feel more tribal.

@TarAntXon They are accurate in that they represent pre-Marco Antz.. This last gig was the Dirk line-up minus A.Warren. I know, 'cause I was there .....! They hadn't quite all 'jumped ship'. But hey, respect - I have a tape of one the Milan gigs somewhere. You were there? At first, the audience were only impressed when they played a fast 'punk' no. or 'Deutsche ..' but by 'Red Scab' at the end, they were sucking Ant cock. Does that ring a bell?

none of the pictures are accurate as at the end of 79 the band had just jumped ship on Malcolm's suggestion. Undeterred Adam quickly got together a new line-up but the photos you have here are of the Ants MK I with Johnny Bivouac and Jordan and MK II which are mostly in b&w. the colour pictures with kabuki make-up from right under the stage are from X-Cine shows in Milan, Oct 1978. I know 'cause I took them ;)

I'm 44 and this was one of the few bands I really liked from the 80's. Dirk Wears White Socks is a masterpiece.

I got my two sons (14 and 16) into them and they turned all their friends onto them.
